Tottenham ‘table’ £86m bid for Brazil international who Levy is ‘obsessed’ with

Rodrygo has been linked with a move to Tottenham.

Tottenham have made an offer for Real Madrid forward Rodrygo with Daniel Levy leading the charge for the Brazilian’s signature, according to reports.

Spurs allowed Harry Kane to leave earlier in the summer transfer window in an £86m transfer to Bayern Munich, which will rise to nearer £100m dependent on various add-ons.

They are yet to properly replace the England international this summer with Brazil international Richarlison taking his place as the main striker.

There’s even been speculation that Tottenham spent the Kane money before they sold him in anticipation of allowing their top goalscorer to leave the club.

Ange Postecoglou has made a good start to the post-Kane era – despite their Carabao Cup loss to Fulham on Tuesday night – with seven points from their opening three Premier League matches, while they’ve been playing front-foot attacking football.

But Postecoglou is still keen to add to his ranks with a number of attacking players like Brennan Johnson at Nottingham Forest and Barcelona’s Ansu Fati.

And now Spanish publication Nacional insist that Tottenham have ‘made an offer’ to Real Madrid for Rodrygo with €100m (£86m) on the ‘table’ for Florentino Perez to consider.

Spurs chairman Levy is said to be ‘obsessed’ by the Brazil international after the 22-year-old contributed nine goals and eight assists from 34 La Liga appearances last term.

But it ‘seems like an impossible mission’ for Real Madrid to accept Tottenham’s offer and find a suitable replacement in the short amount of time left before the transfer deadline on September 1.

It may have been ‘possible’ if Real Madrid had secured the signing of Kylian Mbappe this summer and now ‘cannot afford to lose more players in attack’.

And Tottenham will be forced to ‘look for other alternatives’ as the La Liga outfit ‘will not even consider selling’ Rodrygo before the end of the window.

On the player’s thoughts, Nacional add: ‘Rodrygo, for his part, has not considered leaving Madrid at any time either. He is very satisfied with the role he has, and feels very comfortable in the capital of Spain. And he will not leave to join a less ambitious team, such as Tottenham.’

There have been rumours that Clement Lenglet, who spent last season on loan at Spurs, could return to Tottenham before the end of the transfer window – but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano insists that Postecoglou was never interested.

Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column: “Heading out of Barcelona could be Clement Lenglet, with Aston Villa looking at him as a potential replacement for Tyrone Mings after his injury. Two Spanish clubs wanted him, but what about Tottenham after his loan spell there last season?

“Despite plenty of speculation, my information has always been that Tottenham were never in talks to sign Lenglet again. There were no concrete negotiations despite rumours during the summer. Spurs always had different targets, with new manager Ange Postecoglou having a different vision for that role.”
