Stevie Nicol has gone in on Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic and he doesn’t think that Premier League clubs should be tempted to sign him.

The 24-year-old looks likely to leave Stamford Bridge this summer as Mauricio Pochettino prepares to overhaul the squad.

Since arriving at Chelsea in 2019, Pulisic has struggled to live up to the hype. He scored 11 goals in his debut season but hasn’t matched that tally since.

In 2022-23, he only hit the back of the net once. The majority of his appearances also came from the bench and he is now seeking a fresh opportunity.

Newcastle had been reported as interested at one point, but their interest in the Chelsea star has since cooled.

Nicol doesn’t think that a club like Newcastle should be interested in Pulisic as his best option could be abroad.

“I don’t understand where this confidence about Newcastle is coming from,” Nicol told ESPN.

“How long has Christian been here? What has he done at Chelsea to make Newcastle, who by the way are in the top four and will be playing in the Champions League?

“Christian, unfortunately, hasn’t done anything for three to four years, so I don’t get where the confidence is coming from”

Nicol thinks that the wingers best bet could be a fresh start away from the Premier League.

“I think he is a talented player, but we haven’t seen that since he went to Chelsea.

“If he wants to play in the League Cup and the FA Cup, then go to Newcastle because that’s what will happen. But he can stay at Chelsea and do that.

“If he wants to play, I am sorry, I don’t see it being in the Premier League.”

As of writing, a move to Serie A seems most likely for the 24-year-old. Both AC Milan and Juventus hold an interest in the Chelsea star.

Despite some stuttering years at Stamford Bridge, Pulisic still has the talent to turn his career around.

At 24, he needs to be playing regular first-team football and he is more likely to be afforded that away from Chelsea.

The winger originally joined Chelsea for a £60m fee, but the club are only likely to receive a fraction of this upon his sale.

It has been reported that the club would deem an offer of around £20m acceptable.

With his contract running down and the player wanting to leave, Chelsea have little negotiating power when it comes to this deal.
