Fenerbahce are poised to make a late move for Everton midfielder Andre Gomes, with reports claiming that their manager has ‘approved’ signing the midfielder.

The transfer window in Turkey closes on Friday, leaving the European giants with three days to negotiate a deal with the Toffees.

Gomes was signed by Marco Silva back in June 2019, initially on loan, before Everton signed him permanently from Barcelona six months later.

Despite putting in some good performances for Everton on occasion, he has fallen down the pecking order in recent seasons. A serious injury sustained from a Heung-min Son horror tackle in 2019 also stunted his progress significantly.

Gomes has made 100 appearances overall for Everton, scoring two goals and making seven assists in the process.

He spent last season on loan with French club Lille,  where he featured 27 times, scoring three goals and creating two.

Lille were interested in signing Gomes permanently, but were unable to agree a fee with Everton before the French transfer window closed.

Sean Dyche is still keen to offload him while he still has the chance, though. Everton have already parted ways with 11 players this summer as they continue to grapple with financial issues.

Gomes is currently earning a weekly wage of £110,000, and is yet to feature in a competitive match this term, so it’s unsurprising that they want to get him off the books.

As reported by Football365, both Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor have registered an interest in the 30-year-old.

It now seems that Fenerbahce are the team leading the race for Gomes’ signature. According to Turkish transfer journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, the Turkish club’s manager Ismail Kartal has ‘approved’ a move for the Everton outcast.

An exit is therefore looking increasingly likely for Gomes. It isn’t clear how much Everton would be willing to sell him for, but as mentioned, their main priority will be getting his hefty wages off the books.

The midfielder’s contract at Goodison Park is set to expire at the end of the season, so it’s likely that this will be the Toffees’ last chance avoid losing him on a free transfer.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Fenerbahce can agree a deal with Everton in the next three days.
