Man Utd saddled with flop Ten Hag doesn’t rate until January after Turkish interest dries up

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek is once again stuck in limbo after seeing his chances of a late move to Turkey reportedly collapse.

This presents Erik ten Hag with a dilemma over what to do with the midfielder, who is yet to play a competitive match this season.

Despite an unsuccessful six-month loan spell at Everton in 2021/22, Ten Hag  – who worked with Van de Beek at Ajax – decided to keep the Dutch midfielder around his squad for the 2022/23 campaign.

Van de Beek made just seven Premier League appearances last season, however, after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

The likes of Casemiro, Mason Mount, Sofyan Amrabat and Scott McTominay are all preferred by Ten Hag, so it’s very unlikely that the Dutchman will break into the Man Utd starting XI any time soon.

He has been linked with a move away from Man Utd all summer. As reported by Football365, Real Sociedad and Lorient were interested in him, while Fenerbahce and Galatasaray have considered making a late move.

It appeared as though a move to one of the Turkish clubs was close to completion. It now seems, however, that was not the case.

According to reputed transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Van de Beek is set to remain at Old Trafford until January at least.

“It also looks like nothing will be happening with Donny van de Beek, despite links with Turkish clubs,” Romano told Caught Offside.

“I now expect Van de Beek to stay at Man United – only a very good proposal could change the story but I’m told the current feeling is for Donny to stay at the club until January.”

This update means both Man Utd and Van de Beek are once again in limbo, with plenty of players ahead of him in the pecking order.

The best the midfielder can home for is that he gets the odd chance here and there, perhaps in the Carabao Cup, for example.

Given Van de Beek receives a hefty wage of £120,000 per week and is under contract for another two years, Man Utd will most likely try to get him off the books again in January.
