Man Utd ‘race’ to ‘offload’ £40m flop who ‘refused’ Ligue Un transfer; two clubs ‘interested’ in deal
According to reports, Manchester United are ‘in a race to offload’ Donny van de Beek amid interest from Fenerbahce and Galatasaray.
Van de Beek has endured a nightmare spell at Man Utd over the past three seasons after joining the Red Devils for around £40m from Dutch giants Ajax in 2020.
The Netherlands international has barely featured for Man Utd since completing his move to Old Trafford and in January he suffered a serious knee injury that ruled him out for the final few months of the 2022/23 campaign.
It was hoped that Van de Beek could kickstart his career under Erik ten Hag but this reunion has not worked and the Man Utd head coach has been looking to offload the centre-midfielder throughout this summer.
Over the weekend, French outlet L’Equipe reported that Ligue Un outfit Lorient opted against signing Van de Beek before their transfer window closed after the player ‘refused’ to speak with them earlier in the summer.
Now ESPN are reporting that ‘Van de Beek has interest from Fenerbahce and Galatasaray but United are facing a race against time to offload the midfielder’. They add.
‘Van de Beek has been told by manager Erik ten Hag that he’s unlikely to play a role for United this season following the summer arrivals of Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat.
‘The majority of transfer windows across Europe are now closed but clubs in Turkey can sign players until Sept. 15 giving United a week to agree a deal.
‘Sources have told ESPN that United are willing to consider any offer for Van de Beek.
‘There was hope earlier in the summer that the 26-year-old’s departure might generate a fee but there’s now an acceptance it might have to leave on loan.’

Earlier this summer, Van de Beek admitted that “it’s hard to say where” his future lies.
“For now, it’s hard to say where my future is. I’ve come back now after injury and I’m fit now, so I play my first minutes after training for a few weeks, so I try to push as hard as possible,” Van de Beek told reporters after United’s pre-season game against Lyon.
“Every day [something] can happen, so it’s hard to say now where my future will be. In football you never know, especially with me, so let’s see what happens.”
He added: “It’s also a possibility that I move, so everything is open. It’s hard to say now where my future is,” said the midfielder on Wednesday afternoon.”
