Man Utd ‘getting close’ to signing ‘main summer target’ who has ‘connection’ with Ten Hag
According to reports, Man Utd are ‘getting close’ to signing Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
The Red Devils have consistently been linked with right-backs over the past few months. Aaron Wan-Bissaka found himself down the pecking order before the World Cup while Diogo Dalot was one of Erik ten Hag’s standout performers.
Wan-Bissaka has returned to the fold in recent months and he has been performing better compared to how he did last season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
Speaking last month, Ten Hag indicated that he was happy with Wan-Bissaka as he is “improving his game”.
“Yes, of course,” Ten Hag said when asked if he was pleased with Wan-Bissaka’s recent form. “He is improving his game and I’m happy with his return.
“He had a difficult first part of the season but he fought himself back and that’s a credit to him. If you struggle, you fight yourself back; that’s what life is about, and especially top football.
“You always have to be on the front foot, you always have to be ready,” Ten Hag added. “Sometimes you have setbacks and you have to deal with it and fight back; that is what he did.
“As you say, he’s also now improving his game. [In his] defending I think he was always reliable, but offensively also now he has an impact.”
Despite this, Wan-Bissaka is still being linked with a move away from Man Utd. They are reportedly ‘willing’ to sell the defender amid interest from West Ham United.
If he goes, Man Utd would need to bring in a replacement right-back who can compete with Dalot.
Frimpong is a player who has regularly been linked with Man Utd. It was claimed last week that he is valued at around £50m.
Christian Falk is now reporting that talks about him moving to Man Utd is advancing as the transfer is ‘getting closer and closer’.
He adds that Frimpong is considered to be ‘one of Ten Hag’s main targets for the summer’.
‘Jeremie Frimpong is getting closer and closer to a United move,’ Falk wrote for Caught Offside.
‘Frimpong was also a topic in Winter – United really wanted him then. You know, he’s a Dutch player and his connection to Erik ten Hag is very close. There should have been talks.
‘So, you see now that Ten Hag is performing well with his team and has good arguments for Frimpong and for United in terms of fulfilling his wish. I think he’s one of Ten Hag’s main targets for the summer.’
