Man Utd target Frimpong

Man Utd do not have Jeremie Frimpong at the ‘top of their list’ despite the Bayer Leverkusen defender being spotted in Manchester recently.

There have been rumours for months that Frimpong is a target for Erik ten Hag but Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s form towards the end of the season could’ve changed the Dutchman’s mind over pursuing a new right-back this summer.

Wan-Bissaka became a key part of Ten Hag’s side after the World Cup break and Man Utd are currently looking at addressing more pressing concerns.

Man Utd held talks with Frimpong’s representatives back in April but there hasn’t been any more concrete interest in the right-back from the Red Devils.

And the Daily Mail claim that, despite being seen dining in Manchester, Frimpong is low down on their list of priorities.

‘Tongues were wagging in Manchester at the weekend when Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong was spotted in popular Italian eaterie San Carlo.

‘A well-known celebrity haunt, it is a favourite with the football fraternity and Frimpong was spotted alongside friends and agents Dirk Hebel and Jeffrey Lemmert.

‘The 22-year-old is no stranger to Manchester after spending his formative years there with Manchester City. He has been linked with a move to United, and indeed his representatives held talks with the club in April, but club sources say he is not top of their list.

‘United have other priorities to deal with though they still have interest from Premier League clubs in Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Fulham all enquired about the 25-year-old earlier this year but are looking at cheaper options.’

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Leverkusen’s asking price will be between £30m and £35m for the defender.

Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column: “Formally he has not changed agent; his agent Jeffrey Lemmert has partnered with new agency to work together on Frimpong’s future.

“His agent met Bayern, Barcelona and Man United in April but nothing is advanced at this stage for the fullbacks market in general, same for Joao Cancelo and Denzel Dumfries. I think his asking price could be around £30-35m.”

Bayern Munich and Barcelona have also been tracking the 22-year-old and the Netherlands under-21 international has been coy about his future.

Frimpong told Sport 1 back in April: “I don’t know when I will decide about my future. I’m just concentrating on Leverkusen and the upcoming games.”
