Kane auction possible after shock Levy U-turn as Man Utd linger in the background with transfer plan

There is an increased chance that Harry Kane will leave Spurs this summer after one club pledged to match any Bayern bid and Daniel Levy’s stance softened.

Despite the fact he has just one year remaining on his contract and Spurs thus only have two more windows to get a fee for the striker, Kane is expected to stay in north London with Levy resisting offers once more.

Man Utd quickly dropped out of the race after deeming Kane unobtainable, while Real Madrid felt his valuation was excessive.

But Bayern Munich have been more persistent in their pursuit, having two offers rejected for the England international.

The Bundesliga giants have had their hopes reinforced after meeting with Levy in the week, with the Daily Mirror reporting that Bayern are ‘growing in confidence’ they can get their man.

The club’s transfer committee will meet on Tuesday to plan their approach, feeling that an offer of £80m could be enough.

Kane remains open to all options, including a reported £400,000-a-week deal to extend his Spurs stay, but the north London club insist they will not be ‘bullied’ either way.

One issue for Bayern could be the renewed interest of Paris Saint-Germain, who The Independent believe are ‘are attempting to hijack’ the move for Kane.

PSG have received ‘renewed encouragement’ that Kane would relish the opportunity to play abroad, and ‘the tone of the saga has changed’.

‘There is now at least more credence given to the idea that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy might sell this summer,’ Miguel Delaney adds, also writing that PSG ‘are willing to match Bayern in any bid for Kane,’ which could prompt something of an auction as Levy begrudgingly accepts ‘the logic of a sale’ instead of losing Kane for free in 12 months.

It would, however, require ‘a bid that would make it almost impossible to say no’.

That story also suggests ‘Kane’s main preference remains Manchester United,’ which neatly tallies with the Daily Mail saying Erik ten Hag’s side ‘would also return for Kane if he allows his contract to run down’.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou has already spoken on a delicate situation he inherited when appointed this summer.

“I haven’t had any assurances and I wouldn’t expect any assurances,” Postecoglou said of Kane’s future. “That’s just my nature. I just kind of go along and try to concentrate on the things I know right now.

“What I know right now is that Harry is part of this squad and he’s looking forward to coming back to training and being amongst these players and starting to work together.

“I don’t think it’s my role to sit down and treat people in a manner because of their circumstances. I’m really big on treating everyone the same and Harry has already entrenched himself in the history of this football club.

“He’s a very important part. He’s one of the premier strikers in the world and I want him involved. My conversation with him will be about how we can make this club successful and I’ve got no doubts that’s what he wants as well.

“I doubt it’s going to be defined in the manner that people think it’s going to be. It’s not going to be a conversation where we walk out of the room and have an understanding. I don’t want that kind of conversation.

“What I want is to introduce myself to Harry and give him my vision of the football club and get a sense from him on what he thinks the club needs to do to be successful and walk out on that training pitch and try to make it happen.”
