Premier League winger advised to snub Man Utd by father

Burnley star Dwight McNeil’s father has advised him to ignore transfer interest from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old has already accumulated 58 first-team appearances for the Clarets, scoring five goals and producing 10 assists.

And his father believes Turf Moor remains the best place for his continued development.

His exploits have seen other Premier League clubs take notice with Leicester and Crystal Palace also said to be monitoring his progress.

The England Under-21 international spent time on United’s books as a teenager before being allowed to leave aged 14.

While McNeil’s dad believes he has the ability to play at a higher level, he is wary of the reduced playing time he is likely to experience by moving too early.

“He’s doing really well. It would be best for him to stay put at the moment and go that way,” he told The Sun.

“That’s instead of him going to a top team and just sitting there and getting drip fed into it. He’s got to keep working hard and listening to his manager and coaches.

“I believe with improvement he can be good enough for the top teams.”
