Bayern Munich are hoping they can salvage negotiations over a potential deal for Tottenham striker Harry Kane after Uli Hoeness reportedly frustrated Daniel Levy.

The Bavarian club’s honorary president Hoeness decided to speak publicly about their interest in a deal for Kane over the weekend and suggested the England skipper wants to join them.

“He [Kane] signalled very clearly that his decision was made. And if it stays that way, we’ll get him,” Hoeness said.

“Levy is clever. First we have to get him to name a price. He plays for time, is a great professional. I appreciate him very much. But on the other side [at Bayern] there aren’t any people who have been doing this since yesterday.

“He wants to play internationally [in Europe]. Tottenham won’t be there next season, unlike our club. He now has another opportunity to come to a top club in Europe.

“What we really like about Kane is that his advisors, that is his father and his brother, are very pleasant. So far they have always stood by what they have promised. And if it stays that way, then that’s okay.”

Those comments led to a report in German newspaper Bild to claim that Tottenham chairman Levy was ‘angry’ about Hoeness remarks and he made it clear to Bayern that ‘he of course knew that Harry Kane only had one year left on his contract’.

The report added that Levy was so annoyed that he even told friends: “I’m not letting him go for £70m, £80m or £100m!”

And now The Sun insist that Bayern Munich are ‘scrambling to save’ a deal for Kane and have now ‘staged peace talks’ with Levy over Hoeness’ comments.

The report adds:

‘Red-faced Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen has telephoned Levy to smooth over any issues after a club legend spoke out about the Kane situation.

‘The Bundesliga giants are increasingly confident of landing the England captain, believing he is keen to join.

‘Bayern have failed in two attempts to land the 29-year-old and they were left embarrassed and surprised when honorary president Uli Hoeness claimed he was confident Kane would join.

‘Bayern chief Dreesen met Levy in London on Thursday and wanted to ensure that both clubs remained on good terms and feared Levy would have been fuming over the Hoeness comments.’
