Barcelona ‘not ruling out’ sensational Salah swoop as report names Prem trio as summer targets
Liverpool duo Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah are both on Barcelona’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports in Spain.
Barcelona have been struggling financially for quite a while now but are still being linked with a host of world-class players.
They managed to bring in Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde and Raphinha last year, spending over £100million in the process.
These signings have certainly made a positive impact on the pitch but have done the club no favours financially.
Barcelona risk losing youngster Gavi for nothing at the end of the season as their financial situation has led to a legal dispute over the contract he signed last September.
If they do not lose Gavi, it would be fair to say that the Blaugrana don’t need to buy any players in the summer window, but they obviously will.
Xavi has plenty of options in every position, with the forward area full of superb players.
Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Ousmane Dembele are all available to the Barcelona boss, but it is believed he wants to sign another attacker.
Todo Fichajes relay information from Catalunya Radio that Barca ‘aim to sign a top striker who has the ability to generate imbalance on the left and fits with the idea of the team’s game’.
The same report claims the three players on Xavi’s shortlist are Tottenham’s Heung-min Son and Liverpool’s Salah and Diaz.
Obviously, Barca are wary of their lack of funds but are ‘not ruling out any scenario’.
The La Liga leaders believe the signing of one of these players ‘would be a very high quality leap for the team and could be a determining factor in the fight for the titles of the season’.
Salah signed a new three-year contract last summer and is worth €70m, according to Transfermarkt.
A move to Barcelona seems extremely unlikely given his transfer value, but he has been strongly linked with the Catalan giants for quite some time.
It was recently reported by Foot Mercato that Salah is open to leaving Liverpool at the end of 2022-23.
This report was completely shut down by the Egyptian’s agent, however, who replied to the journalist in question on Twitter.
In response to the article, Ramy Abbas Issa said: ‘Where did you get this from if not even Mohamed and I discussed this? Please tell us.’
Barca are also very unlikely to sign Diaz from Liverpool. A move for Son is more realistic but I still cannot see this one happening.
The South Korean has been very poor this season. He has only scored six goals in 27 Premier League games.
